Let's talk Permaculture...

Permaculture is a set of design principles centered on creating diverse, holistic systems that simulate or directly utilize the patterns and resilient attributes observed in the natural world.

The idea is to utilize plants that work best for the local environment and climate. This type of gardening also focuses on building up soils to gradually make them more nutrient-rich and well-balanced over time by planting a large variety of plants. Community food forests are great examples of modern day permaculture.

What is a Permaculture Food Forest?

A forest garden, or food forest, is a grouping of intentionally placed plants that are designed to mimic the interrelationships that exist in a natural woodland environment.

What is a Fruit Tree Guild?

A fruit tree guild is an interconnected ecosystem Unlike monocultures – a field of corn, a traditional apple orchard or a grass lawn – guilds are polycultures of diverse plants, insects and animals that support each other in a mini ecosystem. Typically, a guild consists of fixers, repellents, attractors, suppressors, mulchers, and accumulator plants.

We are learning new things about permaculture every day and we are so thrilled to incorporate this practice into this property and with our community!
